Be Home By Design

2023 a decision was made to serve the niche of people differently abled wanting to live at home safely. When Amanda struggled to put a zero step entry shower into her bathroom renovation, she was grateful for her health and mobility but wondered what she would have done if she needed that modification to stay living at home? Amanda met a transfer lift vendor while practicing PT at a day neuro center and was inspired to attend the Adaptability Expo to learn more. There she met an OT coworker who was captain of the wheelchair rugby team. Having captained her college rugby team, Amanda was excited to volunteer for this team. While volunteering, she continued her PT work which included performing home assessments for individuals with brain injuries and limb loss struggling with mobility at home. Outside of work she sought out speciality knowledge to enhance her ability to help. Ultimately she choose to start Be Home By Design to focus on this mission full time and she took her first client in 2025.
As a senior in highschool Amanda completed a year long capstone project in Universal Design. Since then she has studied architectural engineering technology (AET) at the University of Hartford and ultimately earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Texas Medical Branch. Throughout the past two decades she has completed home safety assessments, planned home renovations, and sought out specialty knowledge and certifications for aging in place (CAPS) and environmental access (CEAC, masters). She is truly passionate and beyond this knowledge she has volunteered with a wheelchair rugby team and is invested in giving back to the community. Her desire for everyone to not only live at home, but love their homes, drives her endeavors.

We work closely with our clients to understand their needs and preferences, and we strive to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
